In Russia, The Swedes topped their group to the detriment of the 2014 champions Germany. After sending Lindt chocolate home, the Swedes crashed to Fish&Chips in the quarter finals. Another outsider in the quarter finals!

Sweden vs Switzerland ensured the World Cup would have a second complete outsider in the quarter finals after Russia’s heroics against Spain. We knew it would be a tight, pragmatic game beforehand and we were not surprised. Sweden scored the only goal of the game and then impressively defended their lead to make the World Cup quarter finals for the first time since 1994, where they finished third in the USA. Major upsets over the weekend; more to come!

Matchday 4’s biggest surprise was Mexico’s victory against Germany. This World Cup could be one with major upsets with Argentina having also drawn first time participants Iceland and France struggled to beat the Socceroos 2-1. It’s also a World Cup where teams which are not considered household World Cup nations are being ridiculously underestimated.
