The Ahmed Musa Show

Nigeria became the second African nation to win a game at Russia 2018 after their 2-0 win over Iceland. Leicester City striker Ahmed Musa scored two wonderful goals to earn the Super Eagles 3 points and allow them to take 2nd place in Group D.

Switzerland came back from behind to beat Serbia 2-1. Fulham striker Mitrovic scored first for the Serbians but Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka equalized with a mean left foot shot before Xherdan Shaqiri won the game in the dying moments for the Swiss. There was more VAR controversy for Serbia as Mitrovic was clearly fouled in the second half but the referee refused to consult the VAR. This is the second straight game where Serbia have suffered from VAR.

It took some effort but Brazil managed to get past a resolute Costa Rica side. Phillipe Coutinho pounced on a Firmino header in the 90th minute to score Brazil’s first. It would have been a goal Made in Liverpool (Coutinho played for Liverpool until his January transfer to Barcelona) if Gabriel Jesus had not touched the ball in between. In the 97th minute, Brazil had one last counter-attack and Neymar scored his first of the tournament. Final score: Brazil 2-0 Costa Rica.

Group E: Switzerland and Brazil have 4 points each, Serbia 3. Costa Rica have been eliminated and have 0 points.

Group D: Croatia are 1st with 6 points from 2 games. Nigeria are second with 3 points. Iceland are third with 1 point. Argentina is last with 1 point too but having conceded more than Iceland and scored the same number of goals.
