The news coming from French giants Olympique Lyonnais is that their captain Nabil Fekir will be staying with the club next season.
At 2pm EST, Lyon put an end to negotiations with Liverpool FC. The Merseyside outfit has already recruted Virgil Van Dijk, Naby Keita and Fabinho this year. The last piece of the puzzle for Jurgen Klopp would have been French attacker Nabil Fekir. It looks like Liverpool will now have to turn their attention to other targets.
Fekir would have fit perfectly in Liverpool’s attack. The triumvirate of Salah-Mane-Firmino would have become a very dangerous quartet. Fekir can play on either wings and as a central attacking midfielder and would have provided a very much needed flexibility to coach Jurgen Klopp.
It looks as if Olympique Lyonnais will now keep their captain. Fekir was a major contributor to Lyon’s campaign this year with 23 goals to his name.
“Nabil is an incredible player. He impressed me technically” – Zinedine Zidane, 2015.
Fekir is currently in the French squad for the World Cup in Russia. While Griezmann, Mbappe and Dembele look ahead of him in the pecking order, we should not be quick to dismiss the Lyon forward. He has the technical ability to affect France’s campaign.
